We have a whole host of CPD sessions planned for the school year, to support teachers and the new model music curriculum. We will also have some exciting digital resources and opportunities, which will be released throughout the school year.

 

School Arts Network: Introducing Visual Arts in Primary Schools

Wednesday 17th January 2024, 4.15 – 5.30pm, The Point

Join community artist Lucy Taylor and immerse yourself in the world of 1980’s King of Pop Art Andy Warhol and his protege Jean-Michel Basquiat. We will be looking at ways in which we can create a magical environment to encourage children to develop confidence in their own unique abilities. Using the art of Warhol and Basquiat as inspiration, we can develop the use of colour, scale, our own image and everyday objects.

The sessions is free to attend, but places are limited so booking is essential.

 

Teaching Music in Primary Schools: An Introduction

Monday 22nd January 2024, 4.15pm – 5.30pm, The Point

This session is for anyone who finds teaching music a little bit daunting!  Join musician Dyzelle to for a session that introduces the concepts and language you need to know, along with a toolkit of ideas and activities that help you to explore and embed the key elements.

Composition for Model Music Curriculum

Monday 29th January 2024, 4.15pm – 5.30pm, The Point

This session will explore the composition elements of the Model Music Curriculum and offer practical and approachable activities and techniques that everyone can use in the music classroom.

This session is free to attend, but places are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment.

 

All Aboard Music Network: Social, Emotional and Mental Health in the music classroom

Tuesday 27th February 2024 – 4.15pm – 5.30pm, Zoom

In this workshop Verity Watts will explore the worlds of children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties. She will set out a theoretical framework, whilst encouraging a mindset of curiosity around each child and young person as a unique individual. We will also explore understanding of our nervous system and how to self regulate in order to co-regulate with the children and young people. Verity will offer practical regulation strategies for staff and for staff to use with pupils as well as examples from her lived experience of working with children and young people from 12 years in special education, her work in psychotherapy, somatic experiencing, mindfulness and yoga.

Introduction to Fundraising

Monday 11th March 2024, 4.15pm – 5.30pm, The Point

Join darts’ Director of Fundraising and Development, Sophy Sylvester, to explore funding opportunities for schools. Sophy will focus on Awards for All funding specifically, while answering questions about approaches to funding applications and providing some useful tips and tricks from her 25+ years’ experience as a fundraiser.  

Sophy and the fundraising team at darts have a strong record of success with funding bids, particularly with trusts and foundations. Join this CPD session to find out more and how fundraising can be best utilised by schools.

Sing The World

Wednesday 20th March, 4.15 – 5.30pm, The Point

Join musician and singer Janet Wood to explore ways of celebrating diversity both in and beyond the classroom, breaking down cultural stereotypes and arousing children’s natural curiosity through creativity and song. We’ll create a simple framework song to incorporate greetings in different languages, discuss other ways of using a wide variety of music in the classroom, and sing as many songs as we have time for from far and wide.

Janet Wood is a highly experienced singer and songwriter, with decades of experience working with teachers and students.

Our CPD sessions are free to attend, but there are limited places available so please book early to secure your spot.

 

Sing Out CPD

Wednesday 17th April, 4 – 5.30pm, The Point

This session will cover all of the songs that will be performed at Sing Out 2024, as well as the dance moves for each song. If your school is attending Sing Out this year, we recommend that at least one staff member attends this CPD session.
Lyrics, song recordings and videos will all be available after the CPD session for you to refer back to.

We recommend that at least one member of staff from each participating school attends the session.

Introduction to Early Years Music

Wednesday 1st May, 4.15 – 5.30pm, The Point

Join musician Dyzelle for a session exploring Early Years music-making. We will discuss the methodology behind Early Years music education, as well as learning practical activities and games to use in your setting.
Dyzelle is an experienced Early Years music leader, trained in the Kodaly and Colourstrings method of Early Years music education. She is passionate about music education and helping teachers gain confidence in making music.
