Dance On Strength and Balance

Fun, social dance sessions for adults over 50 in Doncaster to prevent falls

Do you have concerns about stability, are you recovering from an injury, living with a long-term health condition or would you just like to enhance your overall wellbeing?

Dance On Strength and Balance is designed for over 55s and blends the joy of movement with targeted exercises to enhance stability and coordination, build confidence and reduce the risk of falls. Dance On Strength and Balance is not just about physical activity; it’s also about making connections with others and building new friendships, and there is time for a cuppa and a chat afterwards.

These lively, fun sessions are flexible and tailored to the needs of those taking part. The programme is delivered by experienced dance artists and qualified postural stability instructors Charlotte and Alex, who ensure that everyone who joins in receives expert guidance. Suitable for all abilities and mobilities, participants can take part seated or standing, with or without support.

Why join us?

Unlike many dance classes that focus on learning a specific style (like Zumba or line dancing), Dance On sessions are specially designed to be accessible, person-centred and inclusive. We blend a wide range of music and movement styles to ensure sessions have something for everyone.

It’s not about learning traditional steps or putting together complicated routines. It’s about the simple joy of moving your body to great music in a safe, supportive space. Whatever your ability, you can take part in a way that suits you. There’s no judgement, and everyone’s included. 

When and where?

Woodfield Park Community Hall, Tickhill Road, Doncaster, DN4 8QN
Mondays, 10:30am – 12pm

FREE until 22 April 2024 then £3.00 per session thereafter (free for carers).
The Community Hall is located within the ground of St Catherine’s. It is fully accessible with free parking on site. No need to book, please just come along.

Summer Schedule

Please note, there will be no Dance On Strength and Balance sessions on Monday 12, 19 or 26 August 2024. Sessions will resume on Monday 2 September 2024.

Led by darts, One Dance UK, the University of Leeds and Yorkshire Dance, Dance On has proved to be a highly successful model, enhancing the lives of hundreds of older adults – many of whom who were previously deemed ‘inactive’. Participants tell us that coming to Dance On has not only improved their physical health but has also improved their mood, fostered new friendships, and made them feel more connected to their local community. The benefits of our innovative Dance On programme have been backed up by 7 years of robust academic research by the University of Leeds, proving that Dance On can improve mobility, balance, and reduce fear of falling.

Funded by Sport England’s national Active Ageing and Local Delivery Pilot Programmes, with partnership funding from a range of partners including City of Doncaster Council, City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council, Leeds City Council and Arts Council England, the programme has enabled people who might not ordinarily access sports or fitness activities to become more physically active through regular fun, social, dance activity.
